Purvi Doshi

Hailing from the western state of Gujarat, the land of the great Mahatma Gandhi, Purvi has always been exposed to Ahimsa (non-violence and compassion for all). Purvi believes in slow, responsible and cruelty free fashion. She believes that anything that is cruel cannot be fashionable. This has led her to creating a complete sustainable brand by using only hand-woven textiles and natural and organic colors and not using animal textiles or even ones produced by harming animals or nature.

Purvi launched her now-famous brand ‘Purvi Doshi’ in 1997 from home which is now her very own 2 storied stand-alone studio.

At first it started with exhibitions around Ahmedabad, like Baroda, Surat and Mumbai. She now participates in exhibitions around India and abroad; at Singapore, Dubai, South Africa and the United States.

Purvi entered her most glorious years when she was chosen to participate in Lakme Fashion week for the first time in 2010. She has thence participated in 8 editions of the globally famous event with her collections. She was invited to showcase her collection based on sustainability at Bangladesh fashion week in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has also been a part of Bangalore fashion week for 2 consecutive seasons.

Her crowning glory was when she represented Indian Fashion at New York Fashion Week. She showcased her collection, ‘Co-existence’ – to exist together, which was based on her thought, Being fashionable does not mean you compromise the lives of other living beings, you must learn to co-exist.

Her achievements span from being awarded as emerging designer by Grazia magazine in 2008 for reinventing old crafts into contemporary style. She was awarded as ‘Woman of Infinite Possibilities’ by the largest and the oldest apex business organisation,FICCI in 2016. She is proud to have many celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Kajol, SonaliBendre, VidyaBalan, RadhikaApte, Sonakshi Sinha, RaveenaTandon, P V sindhu, RakulPreet Singh, SwaraBhaskar, Tisca Chopra in her list and Nandita Das, a renowned actress and social activist to walk on the red carpet of Cannes wearing her khadi gown in 2016 as well as Deepshikhadeshmukh, a well-known director and producer adorned her eco- friendly khadi dress for the green carpet at ‘IIFA 2017’.
